Written in 1951 in Cuba and published in 1952, The Old Man and the Sea is the final major work of fiction by Hemingway to be released during his lifetime. This renowned novel follows Santiago, an elderly fisherman battling a massive marlin in the depths of the Gulf Stream. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953, The Old Man and the Sea played a significant role in Hemingway being honored with the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.
